Golden Eagle Race Details
- First Running: 2019 (won by Kolding).
- Course: Rosehill (2019-2024), Randwick (2025-onwards).
- Status: Upgraded to G1 from 2026.
- Mares: Ran 2nd and 3rd in 2019, then 1st, 2nd and 4th in 2020 and 3rd in 2021. They were 2/3/4/5 in 2022 and then in 2023 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th and 15th despite having most of the favourites. In 2024 they were 4th, 5th, 7th, 10th plus the two Japanese fillies in 12th and last. They came 1st, 8th and 10th in 2025.
- Lead Ups: First two winners and the most recent ran in the Epsom Handicap and then had a month in between with a trial included. In the third and fourth years the winner came from the Toorak. Japan’s winner was first up as was England’s.

Points Of Interest
- International entries ran from the first edition – Beat Le Bon (6th), I Am Superman (13th), Never No More (14th). Three more ran in Year 3 with Laws Of Indices (5th), Maximal (6th) and Reve De Vol (11th). Light Infantry (6th) and Welwal (17th) competed in 2022. The fifth year of the race saw the first win – Obamburumai (1st) but also Legarto (10th) and Galeron (16th). The most runners saw 4 in 2024 including the winner Lake Forest plus Lazzat (2nd), Ascoli Piceno (12th) and Corazon Beat (20th). Panja Tower (5th) and Seagulls Eleven (13th) came down in 2025.
- In 2019 there were 3 who backed up from running in The Everest – Sunlight (2nd), Arcadia Queen (5th), Classique Legend (10th). None did so in 2020 or 2021. Overpass (9th) attempted it in 2022 while Hawaii Five Oh (5th) tried in 2023. Two mares Stefi Magnetica (5th) and Joliestar (7th) had a go in 2024. None in 2025.
- Most Horses Trained (16) - Chris Waller (2 wins).
- I Wish I Win was the first non G1 winner to score, however within 2L of him, were three mares who won G1s in their 3yo filly season. He’d rectify that with the TJ win in the Autumn. Obamburumai was G1 placed in Japan in the NHK Mile Cup before his win and Lake Forest was G1 placed in a Commonwealth Cup.
- Josh Parr rode Obamburumai after legend Yutaka Take was injured and couldn’t fly to Australia.
- Cieren Fallon copped a $100,000 fine and month’s suspension for his winning ride on Lake Forest in 2024 after also surviving a protest. The runner up also received a $30,000 fine and similar suspension.
- By the end of domestic 24/25 season, these contestants of the 2024 Golden Eagle won the following races – Lazzat 2nd (Won G1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stks), Tom Kitten 3rd (Won G1 All-Star Mile), Stefi Magnetica 5th (Won G1 Doncaster Mile), Port Lockroy 6th (Won G1 Railway Stks), Joliestar 7th (Won G1 Newmarket Hcp, Won G1 Kingsford Smith Cup), War Machine 8th (Won G1 Stradbroke Hcp), Skybird 10th (Won G1 Black Caviar Lightning), Ascoli Piceno 12th (Won G1 Victoria Mile).
